About Me
Hi, I’m Jaryd Abela, an Aussie travel enthusiast seeking a life full of memorable travel experiences. I started this blog as a platform to express myself in a creative way, sharing my personal travel experiences, advice and information. My goal is to simply inspire people to pursue their travel dreams and inform/educate people with tried and proven advice.
Some common questions and beliefs I hear from people about my travels:
- “Isn’t that country dangerous?”
- “How can you travel alone?”
- “How do you afford to travel?”
- “Traveling is too expensive.”
- “I’m too busy too travel now.”
- “I have no one to go with.”
- “Why would you travel there?”
I love sharing stories and advice from personal experiences and helping people make the most out of their trip. I would hate for people to make the same mistakes I have like, being scammed in Southeast Asia, or that time I went to the wrong airport in Osaka, Japan.
“You only live once”, sounds cliché, right? Well, really think about that for a minute . . . Do you want to look back when you are 80 and regret not travelling? You don’t get a second chance, so if you want to travel more and regret less you are in the right place.
What Do I Write About?
Everything I write on this blog is 100% honest and comes from my perspective. These are my personal opinions from my experience, and I won’t hide the negative aspects of travel. I believe it is important to be transparent and share the realities of travel—the good and the bad. This is not a blog where I flex and just talk about myself, and how much I am enjoying sipping Piña Coladas on a beach in Thailand. No, this blog is for you, the reader.
I want to provide as much value as I possibly can to inspire and inform fellow travellers like you to travel more, travel smarter and travel safer.

How Did I Get into Travelling?
When I was a kid, I was always fascinated by the geography of the world. My grandparents had travelled a bunch in their time. They would tell me stories and I would sit there and listen with intrigue.
They used to quiz me on capital cities of countries and flag colours, and I became pretty good at it. How many ten-year old’s know the capital city of Poland? I took pride in my knowledge of the world’s geography. While most kids my age were more interested in trading Pokémon cards.
Back in 2017 when I had graduated high school and worked casual as a labourer in a scaffold yard. I would daydream about travel more than girls, sports or cars—I was just 18 at the time.
I envisioned this grand trip around Southeast Asia. I was super excited and had an itinerary figured out in my head. So, I proposed the idea to my friends to see if they were keen. And to my disappointment no one was quite as keen a me. Either they didn’t have the money, didn’t want to, or would love to but couldn’t take time off work.
This honestly made my heart sink a little. I used to think you had to travel with someone—that this was the only way. But this itch wouldn’t leave, I knew I couldn’t give up that easy. I thought to myself, am I going to not go and put it off because my friends couldn’t go? My ambition was to great to put it off based on other people’s decisions.
This is when I discovered solo travel. I read about people in similar situations to me who decided they weren’t going to wait around for people, so they just took off. I realised I’m an introvert anyway and love my alone time, so this would be the perfect opportunity to follow my passion while growing as a person.
So, I booked a one-way flight to Phuket, Thailand. Since then I have continued pursuing my passion of travel and haven’t looked back since. Just remember, no one ever said “I regret travelling around the world”.
